Our Story

“Somewhere between bites of spicy suya and laughing way too hard, I thought to myself, Okay… this might actually be something real…”

BRIDE'S STORY

Kunle and I met on Instagram—of all places—in November 2020. I was minding my business, casually watching stories, when I stumbled on someone asking for help with a data structures and algorithms assignment. I had just taken the class, so I thought, sure, let me be a good Samaritan today. Did I know who he was? Not at all. He was probably just a mutual I followed for no reason, like we all do sometimes.

He responded right away, super friendly and eager, and we set up a Zoom call so I could help him out. At the time, I genuinely had no other motive—just helping a stranger on the internet with their homework (very safe, I know). But we ended up meeting on Zoom a few more times, covering more topics… and maybe exchanging a few extra smiles.

Eventually, he asked for my number. I figured, why not? Our conversations were still pretty academic—until one day, out of nowhere, he asked me on a date. I paused and thought, hmm… he’s kinda cute, and at the very least, he knows how to use Zoom. Could be promising.

Our first date was at Suya Spot. From the moment we sat down, the vibe was easy and warm. I got a glimpse of his heart, his sense of humor, and what he values most in life. Somewhere between bites of spicy suya and laughing way too hard, I thought to myself, Okay… this might actually be something real.

GROOM'S STORY

I was taking a data structures and algorithms class and ran into trouble with a particularly tricky algorithm—it was a bit tough to wrap my head around. So I posted an Instagram story asking if anyone smart (or just smarter than me at that moment) could help me out. She replied to my story with a kind offer to help me figure it out.
We set up a Zoom meeting to go over the questions, and during that first call, I found myself thinking, Wow, she’s not only brilliant—she’s also really cute. I promise I stayed focused during all our sessions! But eventually, I mustered up the courage to ask for her phone number—not just because of the algorithm, but because I genuinely wanted to get to know her better beyond academics.
As we kept talking, I found myself looking forward to every conversation. I realized I didn’t just want to be friends—I was really starting to like her. I remember nervously asking her out on a date, and to my delight, she said yes. I had no idea where to take her, so I went with a classic: Suya Spot. Yep, that Suya Spot in Owings Mills.
When we met in person, the first thing I thought was, Oh, she’s tall. But more importantly, the date was fun and gave me a chance to see what really matters—her values, her drive, and her warmth. After that night, I just knew—this felt different. It felt right. We were completely ourselves with each other, and that comfort hasn’t left since.

"I choose you. And I’ll choose you, over and over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat. I’ll keep choosing you."
